After weeks of combing through applications, the big day finally arrived for Retail inMotion, Eurowings and NX-FOOD: Start-Up Pitching Day. The three companies joined forces earlier this year to identify and select the newest and trendiest products on the market to fly on board Eurowings flights. In a session that lasted just over five hours, the “Top 8” food and beverage start-ups presented their innovative, trendy and revolutionary ideas in hopes of being selected to start flying in August.
The products presented were as diverse as they were creative. From algae-based beverages and savory popcorn snacks, to energy balls and all-natural health drinks, all of the top items were sure to appeal to Eurowings’ passengers. “Together with NX-FOOD and Eurowings, we selected the products that were particularly well-matched for an inflight environment,” explained Claudia Witt, Product Manager Onboard Retail at Retail inMotion. “The finalists were drastically different, but each had the potential to be a unique, interesting and popular addition to the Eurowings selection.”
A team of 10 judges from Retail inMotion, NX-FOOD and Eurowings (including a crew representative) came together in a “Dragon’s Den” format to hear the ideas behind the top start-ups and experience their products first hand. It was a day of indulgence for the judges, and yet, with all of the healthy food items on display, the group likely ended the day a bit healthier than when they arrived.
We’re happy to say that after careful deliberation, the joint group of judges was able to whittle the top eight products down to the final four, super-trendy items that will fly on board:
- Karl Karlo Energy Balls: An organic, vegan, long-lasting energy snack to boost passengers’ energy levels both during flight and after they’ve reached their destination.
- Energieliebe: A delicious and all-natural energy beverage with an attached sachet (“KIQstick”) that passengers can mix in for extra vitamins, minerals and flavor.
- Wildcorn: Air-popped popcorn with salty and savory flavors; the sinful taste of potato chips, but never fried and with no added sugar
- Nouri Boost Shot: With their 100% all-natural, vegan energy shot, Nouri offers health-conscious passengers a special formula to boost their energy levels organically
