Ryanair has won PETA's 2019 Travel Award for "Best In-Flight Meal". The non-profit organization recently launched their first-ever PETA Travel Awards, which celebrate travel providers, hotels, attractions, and other industry leaders that are meeting the growing demand for vegan and animal-friendly travel.
The vegan lasagne developed by Tops and sourced by Retail inMotion for Ryanair was approved by PETA earlier this year. The animal rights charity joined forces with Ryanair during the development phase to ensure that, in addition to satisfying passengers’ hunger, the product is also planet-friendly. The meal has since become a bestseller onboard Ryanair flights.
“Retail inMotion is honoured to have created a product that PETA considers to be the perfect example for what an in-flight meal should look like,” commented Michelle Tully, Retail Director at Retail inMotion. “We’re thrilled to offer passengers aboard Ryanair flights a tasty vegan meal which is also good for the planet.”
The ingredients for the award-winning vegan lasagne have been carefully selected to guarantee an exquisite taste; the maize and rice flour pasta is topped with a sauce prepared with a variety of vegetables, such as tomatoes, spinach, onions, carrots and zucchini along with a vegan cream made of soy and coconut. A dairy-free cheese rounds off the recipe.
The vegan lasagne is available on all European flights, in addition to various vegan snack options such as KP Salted Peanuts, Almonds, Pringles (Original and Paprika), Boxerchips Thai Sweet Chilli Lentil Curls and Savagely Sea Salted. Other examples of vegan products developed by Retail inMotion are nucao Cashew Vanilla Chocolate Bar, which can be found onboard Eurowings and SunExpress flights, Sprout Tea Spoon, available on SunExpress flights and Freely Handustry Chocolate Chip or Salted Caramel Cookies, included on SWISS’ menu.
