So, Matthia and Olivier, in Part 1 of this interview, you discussed the Business Consultant / Account Manager position at Retail inMotion. You gave a lot of detail about what all goes into your position, but how exactly is that unique to Retail inMotion?
Olivier: I think we would both agree that two of the main things that make our positions unique are (1) the industry and (2) the people.
The Onboard Retail industry is a great asset for Retail inMotion’s employees. It combines the structured, optimized and highly operations-driven environment of the airlines industry with the flexibility, agility and market-awareness of the retail industry. Onboard Retail is a fast-growing market, which pushes us to go further every day.
The way Retail inMotion is structured (i.e. flat, matrix organization) creates a very nice work environment and atmosphere. This not only helps us be more productive on a day-to-day basis, but it also makes the whole thing much nicer. On top of that, the profiles are very interesting. We are in a “joint-industry” (Airlines + Retail), but also because our solution relies on different underlying technologies and concepts. You might be working on a project with an engineer who’s developing a new predictive planner and someone who’s working on a new design for a user screen on the POS. And that’s not the only an example!
Matthia: Times are changing for Retail inMotion. The company is going through a period of transition from a start up to middle-sized enterprise, with all the challenges, questions that this represents. That means that our role is defining itself at the moment, and that’s very exciting. It means that we’re constantly facing new situations and also gives us a good deal of autonomy.
In your position, you become a direct representative of Retail inMotion to customers – how do you make sure that you are portraying the Retail inMotion culture?
Matthia: As Retail inMotion ambassadors to the customer, it’s crucial that we send the right messages. One of the messages that we convey is that we’ll always be looking for a solution to make the impossible happen.
Olivier: Also, every time we get the chance, we wear the Hubble Astronaut suit…
This might be a hard question — especially since you’re constantly facing new situations in your positions, but what would you say is your favorite thing about being a Business Consultant / Account Manager at Retail inMotion?
Olivier: The diversity that we’ve touched on before really makes our job what it is. The challenges that we face every day make us drive back or walk back home with a real feeling of accomplishment. Oh! Also, the work environment, fast-paced, ever-growing, and even ever-changing, makes every day unique.
Matthia: Brick-by-brick we are building something together. Every day we want to go further and higher. Working as a Business Consultant with Retail inMotion is an every-day challenge. It constantly pushes us out of our comfort zone – which is what comes with working for a company that develops as quickly as Retail inMotion has.
But you can imagine what a nice feeling it is to sometimes look back in the mirror at what we’ve achieved and then look forward at all what’s left to be accomplished.
